"The
purpose of our camp shall be to assist local churches in the work of
evangelism and discipleship through the conducting and hosting of camps
and retreats..."
This mission is
powerfully fulfilled at Camp Gilead. Many campers have their first
moment of true spiritual awareness at Camp Gilead, for the first time
grasping that Jesus Christ died for them. Others, who already know
Christ, are challenged to grow and mature in their faith and to consider a
lifetime of service to God. Our mission has never been
stronger.

Our house is worn out.
As Staff and Board, we have prayed, strategized and consulted
professionals in an effort to choose wise and productive expenditures as
we plan for our future. Management and maintenance have extracted
every dollar of value possible from early investments into some of the
facilities. While we are still developing the exact overall site
plan, we have identified some very specific improvements and
replacements that are needed now.

Dorms that have housed up to four
generations of campers over the past
55 years are on the verge of disintegration. Restrooms are
inadequate and located outside the dorms. There is increasing demand
for additional, more private facilities, suitable for adult conferences,
while still meeting the primary focus of a youth-oriented summer program.
Phase I of our plan for the future of Camp
Gilead will be to replace the girl's dorm and lower restrooms
with three fourplexes, each with its own restroom facility. We are
also planning a general bathroom and laundry facility.
These improvements will significantly increase the safety of the summer
campers while providing comfortable lodging for adult groups who want a
well equipped location for their meetings, retreats and gatherings and
who are drawn to the unique beauty surrounding Camp Gilead.
Today, in order to prepare for future generations of
campers, we must make our facilities match our mission.
